Over Three Hundred Visitors Attend the Loftus Poppy Festival!

The Loftus Poppy Festival, a community event which was held in Saint Leonard’s Parish Church and Churchyard in Loftus Town Centre from Friday 9th November 2018 to Friday 16th November 2018, was attended by well over three hundred people.  Moreover, visitors came to visit Loftus from across East Cleveland, Teesside, North Yorkshire and from as far away as Central London and even Australia!

Father Adam Gaunt, Rector of Loftus-in-Cleveland said, “Everyone who attended the Loftus Poppy Festival, either as part of a church service or as a visitor, was clearly impressed by our community’s efforts in actively commemorating the centenary of the armistice of 1918.  Many of our visitors were also deeply moved by the arrangements and displays, which provided a powerful backdrop to our civic and religious keeping of Remembrance Sunday 2018 and to the centenary of the armistice that concluded the horrors of the Great War.   A big thank you to all those who contributed to the displays, to those who contributed to the five thousand knitted poppies displayed in church and to everyone who who has supported this unique and special event in  what ever way.”
